Welcome to the Amazon: A Journey into Nature’s Heart

Day 1: Arrival in the Amazon.

Your adventure begins in Puerto Maldonado, the vibrant gateway to the awe-inspiring Amazon rainforest. From here, embark on a scenic one-hour bus ride, followed by a 2.5-hour boat trip along the tranquil jungle rivers. As you journey deeper into the wilderness, savor your first taste of authentic Amazonian cuisine while taking in the stunning natural landscapes surrounding you.

Cross the confluence of the Malinowski River, leaving behind human settlements and entering the vast Tambopata National Reserve, a 700,000-hectare protected rainforest sanctuary. As you venture deeper into the reserve, keep an eye out for incredible wildlife, including capybaras, caimans, and macaws, which become more visible as you journey further into this pristine wilderness.

Arrive at the Tambopata Research Center, a premier eco-lodge nestled in the heart of nature. This unique retreat supports groundbreaking conservation initiatives, such as the Tambopata Macaw Project8 Primates Project, and the Discovering New Species Program. The lodge offers comfortable accommodations with private bathrooms and open-air windows, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding forest. Day 2: Macaw Clay Lick and Observation Tower

Begin your morning with a visit to the famous Macaw Clay Lick, one of the Amazon’s most spectacular natural displays. At dawn, watch dozens of scarlet macaws and red-and-green macaws, along with hundreds of colorful parrots, gather on the riverbank to feed on mineral-rich clay. From a vantage point just 50 meters away, witness this mesmerizing spectacle—a moment celebrated by nature enthusiasts worldwide.

In the afternoon, ascend the Observation Tower at the Tambopata Research Center. This 30-meter-high structure offers breathtaking panoramic views of the rainforest canopy. From this elevated perspective, spot wildlife such as monkeys, toucans, and vibrant bird species while taking in the awe-inspiring expanse of the Amazon’s lush green canopy.


Day 3: Bamboo Trail and 8 Primates Project

Begin your day with a peaceful exploration of the Bamboo Trail, a magical pathway through a rare bamboo forest. Stroll beside the shimmering river as sunlight filters through the delicate leaves, creating an enchanting atmosphere. The Guadua bamboo, native to this region, grows several meters each year, forming a distinctive habitat that supports unique wildlife.

End your morning with an exclusive experience at the 8 Primates Project, where you’ll learn about conservation efforts aimed at protecting the diverse primate species of the Amazon.

Bamboo Trail – Tambopata National Reserve

In the afternoon, take part in the 8 Primates Project, a five-kilometer hike along a classic rainforest trail teeming with towering trees, streams, and ponds. This trail offers incredible opportunities to observe various primate species, including squirrel monkeys, brown capuchins, and spider monkeys, as well as peccaries. The strategic location of the Tambopata Research Center within this habitat makes it an ideal spot for primate observation.


Day 4: Creek Adventure and Master Hike.

Spend your morning exploring the Creek Adventure, a distinctive lowland forest best experienced between November and March, during the rainy season, when the streams are brimming with water. This half-day hike provides unique insights into the ecology of these stream-crossed forests, offering glimpses of wildlife and the intricate network of waterways that sustain the rainforest’s rich biodiversity.Howler Monkeys and the Master Hike

In the afternoon, embark on the Master Hike through the Amazon Rainforest, a longer excursion that delves deep into the incredible biodiversity of the forest. Led by expert guides, this hike uncovers the hidden treasures of the jungle, including canopy-dwelling birds, various monkey species, and remarkable flora. You’ll leave with a profound appreciation for the Amazon’s intricate ecosystem, as you observe howler monkeys favoring the tallest trees along the trail.

After dinner, participate in the Discovering New Species activity. Join researchers on a nighttime light trap expedition to explore the forest and potentially identify new species. This hands-on citizen science experience allows you to directly contribute to ongoing biodiversity research while gaining a deeper understanding of the rainforest’s vast and complex ecosystem.


Day 5: Relaxation, Wildlife Along the Riverbanks, and Departure.

Enjoy a peaceful morning with breakfast and relaxation on the lodge’s hammocks, savoring your final moments in the serene Amazon. Take one last opportunity to observe wildlife along the riverbanks during your journey back to Puerto Maldonado. Often, animals make a parting appearance, as if bidding you farewell, providing a perfect end to your Amazon adventure.

Your journey concludes with a boat and bus transfer to catch your flight. Carry with you unforgettable memories of your exploration in the heart of the Amazon and the knowledge that your visit directly supported the Wired Amazon program and conservation efforts in the Tambopata National Reserve.
